Our Youth Ministries
|Mark Beard is the Youth Minister at Procter Baptist Church. Mark grew up in the Port Arthur as a PK (Preacher's Kid). He met the love of his life, Vicki Drake in the tenth grade at TJ. They were married 4 years later and are have been married over 33 years. They have one son, Matthew. Mark accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was 20 and has been working with children and youth in some way since then.
Bro. Mark says, "I know that God has placed me where I am, doing what I'm doing and I try to stay as close to His plan as I can. I have several priorities in working with the Youth. The first is that they realize who Jesus is and that He loves them and wants to be in their life (He will save them if they choose Him). The second is that as we spend time with Him and learn to follow Him our life will be meaningful, exciting and abundant, and the third is that we learn to love others and to help them."
On Wednesday nights our youth meet from 6:00p.m. to 7:30p.m. but usually get there early and stay a little late. When the youth ask "what are we doing tonight", the usual answer is "goof off and have a lesson". Goofing off is playing basketball, ping-pong, kickball, hanging out or whatever.
On Sunday nights we meet from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. We usually go somewhere to serve others. (Senior Rehab, Hughen School, Community Prayer Care Center.)
Bro. Mark tells us, "My favorite scriptures are Mark 12:29-31 which tells us to put God 1st, others 2nd and then ourselves. Also, Matthew 11:28-30 where Jesus says, "Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Accept my teachings and learn from me because I am gentle and humble in spirit and you will find rest for your lives." My hope and constant prayer is that when a youth comes to our church that they know that they are important, special and are loved and that Jesus has an awesome plan especially for them.
